Ben Johns right after playing a singles quarter finals match in the Onix Austin Open tweeted out about “delaminated’ paddles. He played Jaume Martinez Vich and he used the Diamond 6.0 which is a paddle rumored to have the delamination problem.
Ben tweeted out calling out Diamond, vatic,CRBN, and Legacy paddles. Saying those companies have no respect toward the rules of pickleball and only do something until penalized. Also saying he doesn’t blame any players because that is what is given to them but is putting blame on the companies. He says the delaminated paddles are creating an unfair advantage.
One question I have about this is with all the companies having paddles “delaminate”, is it on purpose or is it a manufacturing error? Also does that mean all those paddle are getting made in the same factory?
I think usa pickleball or PPA needs to come out and explain how they test it and what is really happening with these paddles.
Another question to raise is how much power does Ben hold in the pickleball world. Is he really capable of creating change however he wants it?
Clayton Boydston is a self proclaimed pickleball fanatic! A former semi-pro soccer player, he was looking for a new athletic outlet as he transitioned out of soccer. He discovered pickleball when he moved to Utah County in the summer of 2021. From the moment he stepped on the court he was addicted. He studied hours of professional pickleball matches, drilled for hours, and played matches every chance he got. He started as a 3.0 player and quickly advanced to the pro ranks. Clayton loves everything pickleball and loves writing about the latest news and events of this sport he loves.
He is also a pickleball instructor and of the founders of the Boydston Pickleball Academy where they teach beginners all the way up to advanced players.
